Coronavirus Social Distancing Measures | Event Impact - Sunshine Coast MultiSport Festival
Sunshine Coast MultiSport Festival Postponed
To our In2Adventure community,
Firstly, we would like to send our thoughts and best wishes to all those who have been impacted by the events of recent times. It is, and will remain to be, an immense challenge for everyone now, and into the future. We are facing the reality that our world is changing significantly, for us, but most importantly for our In2Adventure family.
At In2Adventure running events isn’t like a business to us, we do it because it feels like creating something positive in the world for some really awesome people. Having to make heartbreaking decisions to postpone events, in a time when we know the community needs something positive and the support of each other is really hard.
However, like always, we work with a ‘no regrets’ policy and the health, safety and well-being of our athletes is always at the forefront of the actions we take. We have been monitoring the situation stringently over the past few weeks and did not want to make any hasty decisions, however, with just under eight weeks to go and based on government measures in place, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Sunshine Coast MultiSport Festival due to take place on 16th & 17th of May. The event will be rescheduled to a later date which will be confirmed when details are more certain.
Please be assured that this decision was not made lightly, but due to the current government restrictions; and the threat to those in our community, especially the most vulnerable, it is something which is out of our control. We deeply regret the impact this has on others including our athletes who have supported our events for over 15 years and have trained and looked forward to the weekend. The amazing community groups and businesses who provide amazing services to our events; and our partners who support us to ensure we can all enjoy the off-road sports we love.
All entrants will receive a full credit valid for 18 months that can be used for any future event of your choice when the crisis is over. A credit code will be emailed to you over the coming weeks.
Making a decision now means that athletes and our partners can move forward with some certainty, rather than waiting until a later date.
One thing that does give us hope however, is that for the past 15 years we have had the privilege of witnessing how amazing our off-road community is. At our events we are constantly witnessing random acts of kindness, caring for those who need a hand, and putting others before yourselves…..
- When an athlete is winning their race, yet they stop to make sure someone, who they may not even know, is OK after coming off their bike,
- When you are hurting and you know the runner next to you is hurting just as much, but you can still muster the energy to give them a word of encouragement,
- When you take the time to share some tips and hints that will make a race easier for another athlete, even though they might be your competition,
- When you wait around for hours for your mate who’s taking part in his first race to finish to make sure there’s a familiar face at the end,
- When there’s a hug and handshake for every athlete that has pushed themselves to the limit.
We could go on for hours with a list as long as your arm, and although seemingly small, it is actions like these that mean so much and help us to recognise that the whole can be so much more important than each individual.
We know this amazing spirit of our In2Adventure community will be carried into this crisis and will mean that we will all come out the other side stronger than before.
At In2Adventure, our focus now, is to invest our time, effort and energy into developing a full calendar of events for 2020/21, to ensure that when the challenges have passed (and they WILL), that we are still here in business and ready to get back to what we love to do, which is putting our hearts and souls into delivering events that hopefully, create a little bit of something positive in this world for some pretty amazing people.
Thank you all for your support and for creating the type of community that we want to be a part of. Stay safe, be kind, and keep training (not in groups of course ?) and make sure you’re ready to race your hearts out when this is over as we head back to the places we adore, to enjoy the sports we love.
All our love
Rob & Simon & the i2a team
