SNOWIES MTB FESTIVAL RETURNS TO THE FULL FIVE IN 2027

FIVE STAGES, THREE DAYS, THE RETURN OF THE ALPINE DOUBLE BUNGA – AND A BRAND-NEW CHAMPIONSHIP FOR E-BIKE RIDERS.

The Snowies MTB Festival is going back to its roots in 2027, bringing five epic stages of mountain biking back to the spectacular Snowy Mountains from Thursday 18 to Saturday 20 February 2027.

In 2027 the festival will once again deliver the full five-stage experience that made the Snowies one of Australia’s most distinctive mountain bike stage races.

The refreshed 2027 program brings back the full five-stage experience, including the much-loved Alpine Double Bunga and a rare opportunity to ride the entire length of the iconic Thredbo Valley Track on closed trails.

If the Thredbo Valley Track is not already on your mountain biking bucket list, it should be. Stage 4: Snowies Legends Descent is the only opportunity to experience the complete 42km journey uninterrupted—from Thredbo to Jindabyne, with nothing ahead but one legendary trail and pure mountain biking exhilaration from top to bottom.

For riders who have been there before, it is the return they have been waiting for. For those yet to experience the Snowies, it is five very good reasons to finally answer the call of the mountains.

FIVE STAGES. THREE DAYS. ONE UNFORGETTABLE RIDE.

From short, sharp racing that wakes up the legs to flowing singletrack, alpine climbs and fast, exhilarating descents, every stage brings something different.

Riders can expect three days of proper mountain bike adventure, with the cumulative times across all five stages deciding the 2027 champions.

At the heart of it all is Oaks Lake Crackenback Resort, transforming into a high-country mountain biking village where riders, families and supporters can stay, race, recover and celebrate together.

It is this atmosphere that has always set the Snowies apart. Riders finish each stage among friends and fellow competitors, trade stories over food and drinks, and wake up the next morning ready to do it all again.

Add the unforgettable sight of the festival’s own Man from Snowy River leading riders out on horseback, and this is much more than another weekend of racing. It is mountain biking with a genuine high-country character.

THE ALPINE DOUBLE BUNGA IS BACK

Few stages have generated as many stories—or as much post-race discussion—as the Alpine Double Bunga.

In 2027, the much-loved stage returns to the festival program, adding another memorable chapter to the full five-stage journey.

It is tough, rewarding, unmistakably Snowies and exactly the kind of stage riders will still be talking about long after the dust has settled.

INTRODUCING THE SNOW-ES E-BIKE CHAMPIONSHIP

The 2027 festival will also see e-MTB racing step into the spotlight with the launch of the inaugural Snow-Es E-Bike Championship.

Previously included as a smaller category within the wider event, e-bike riders will now have a dedicated championship experience featuring:

Separate e-bike starts
Dedicated category results and awards
An overall Snow-Es Championship title
The inaugural Snow-Es Trophy

Snow-Es has been created for riders who love the extra possibilities of e-MTB riding but still want the atmosphere, camaraderie and excitement of a genuine multi-stage event.

Whether they are experienced e-MTB competitors or riders looking for a whole new way to experience the Snowies, Snow-Es gives e-riders their own place on the start line—and their own title to chase.

CHOOSE YOUR SNOWIES CHALLENGE

The 2027 festival will offer stage-race options to suit different riders, goals and riding styles.

The Wild Brumby Stage Race delivers the full-distance experience for riders ready to take on everything the Snowies can throw at them.

The Brumby Stage Race offers a shorter—but still seriously rewarding—way to complete the multi-stage journey.

Both stage races include Solo, Pairs and Team categories, giving riders the choice to race individually, share the experience with a mate or bring a crew along for the adventure.

Single-day riding options will also be available for those who cannot commit to the complete festival.

Entries for One Day Riders will open on Thursday 10 September 2026 at the Super Early Bird entry price. One Day Rider entries are not included in the half-price opening-day sale.
