Snowies MTB Festival Update & Stage 1 Results

First we’d like to say a huge congratulations to all riders who finished Stage 1 today in some really challenging conditions.  Not often you can say in Australia that you’ve ridden a stage in the snow.

Unfortunately, due to snow, Thredbo Resort closed the mountain and Stage 2 Ricochet for the Wild Brumby course was not able to go ahead, which we know has been disappointing for all our Wild Brumby competitors.

We have done an inspection on the trails at Lake Crackenback Resort and currently they are very wet. With the forecast sunshine we were hoping to be able to stage the ‘Time Trial’ this afternoon on the resort, however, after an inspection of the trails, and based on a number of factors including, the enjoyment of participants, safety and the environment, the stage will not go ahead this afternoon to give the trails an opportunity to recover and dry out.

Currently with a favourable weather forecast the plan is that Wild Brumby Stage 3 ‘Snowies Legends Descent’ and Brumby Stage 2 Gravity Check will go ahead as scheduled on Saturday morning.

In consultation with Thredbo, and if conditions permit the Wild Brumby Ricochet Stage will take place from 3pm on Saturday afternoon.

If this is not possible the Time Trial Stage will take place at Lake Crackenback resort as scheduled at 5pm on Saturday afternoon.

Thredbo have advised that they will make a decision on this tomorrow morning and we will let everyone know as soon as this happens.

We are currently working through the logistics of reorganising buses, staff, permits etc and will keep everyone updated as these details come to hand.

So for now the key take outs are:

1. Friday 3^rd Feb - There is no racing this afternoon.
2. AM Saturday 4^th Feb - Snowies Legends Decent and Gravity Check will run as per the current schedule.
3. AM Saturday 4^th Feb –
   1. 8:40am: Course Brief – Friday Flat at Thredbo - Compulsory for all riders
   2. 8:50am: Stage 1 Elite Presentations - Friday Flat at Thredbo
   3. 9:00am: Stage Start - Friday Flat at Thredbo - Mass Start of Thredbo Fire Trails
4. PM Saturday 4^th Feb - Ricochet at Thredbo or the Time Trial at Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa and this will be confirmed on Saturday morning.
5. Sunday 5^th Feb – As scheduled ‘Release the Cracken Marathon’ at Lake Crackenback Resort

We are so very disappointed that the event was not able to go ahead as scheduled, and we know this will also be very disappointing for all our riders also, but we thank you all in advance for your understanding as we work through the impact of the recent weather.
