SNOWY MOUNTAINS, NSW | Snowies Mountain Bike Festival has released details of an all new stage for 2019. The new Stage 1 ‘Lake 2 Lake’ will offer up some of the most spectacular alpine vistas as it traverses the Jindabyne foreshore along 16.2km of pumping single track.
With the prospective full opening of the Lower Thredbo Valley Trail linking Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa to Jindabyne, expected to be around February, it was hoped that plans to include this epic new trail could be launched for the 2019 festival, however, National Parks have advised that the trail will not be fully open for event use by the 8-10 February date, so organisers have advised that they will be saving this gem for 2020, however, Stage 1 In 2019 will still include the Jindabyne, Hatchery Trail section of the ride .
Race Director Simon Lazenby told us that, “Stage 1 is a great way to kick off the festival and to ease the legs into a big weekend of racing. It’s a fun, fast flowing single track that takes riders on an epic journey to discover the spectacular natural beauty of Lake Jindabyne and its stunning foreshore.”
Riders should be ready for a huge helping of enjoyment as the Hatchery link takes riders on a roller coaster ride of fast, flowing single track trails while also providing some of the very best views of this incredible man-made lake. Organisers have challenged riders to “not be smiling at the end of this super-fast blast.”
The first part of Stage 1 is a 7.5km ride starting at Claypits Park in Jindabyne and finishing at Hatchery Bay, followed by a 15min break at Hatchery Bay after the final rider has finished.
After the short 15min break it’s into the second part of stage 1 which includes some extra pumping fire trails and pinchy climbs before swinging back into the flowing single track from Hatchery Bay back to the celebrations and the finish line at Claypits Park in the heart of Jindabyne.
Overall times and placings for stage 1 will be the cumulative times for stage 1a and 1b.
