It was a Summit Smash for Russell Nankervis and Zoe Cuthbert at Stage 3 of the Snowies Mountain Bike Festival

SNOWY MTNS, NSW | It was a Summit Smash for Russell Nankervis and Zoe Cuthbert at Stage 3 of the Snowies Mountain Bike Festival

It was a quick trip for riders to the start line right outside race headquarters at Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa to begin day two and stage three of the competition with a rolling group start heading 19.5km up the Thredbo Valley Trail towards Friday Flat at Thredbo.

The race, although grouped at the beginning, slowly exposed the elite riders from the rest as heart pumping hill on Little Thredbo Road funneled down onto single track through the rugged terrrain.

It was Russell Nankervis (56:37:80) and Zoe Cuthbert (1:05:09.21) who recorded the fastest times on the Summit Smash to Thredbo Resort

Both Matthew Dinham (56:40:73) and Cristy Henderson (1:05:22:46) claimed second spot for this stage and fought courageously to only just miss top spot, Dinham by only three seconds. And finally, the bronze positions, secured by Callum Carson (56:46:69) and Peta Mullens (1:07:06.33) rounded out the podium, Mullens continuing here streak of podium success throughout the festival.

In the GC, Cameron Ivory once again donned the yellow leaders jersey for the men, with Christy Henderson stepping up to claim the womens GC Yellow jersey heading into Stage 4.

At the finish of the Summit Smash, riders earned much needed rest, finding shelter from the Alpine winds in anyway possible. Competitors were counting down the minutes till they took to the chair lifts for a ride to the top for the next stage, to battle not only the grueling wind chill that awaited their arrival, but the all mountain decent and gravity check, their journey home to Crackenback.
